Krystin first approached me about doing photos for her around February of this year. We had tons and tons of ideas that swirled around, and in-between us. We came to a very clear decision that if we wanted to do everything our little buzzing minds wanted to, that we would have to just split our sessions between two days. With that being said. Part two will be in the way very shortly (just wait for it!!!ahh). For this session we decided to do the more casual laid back version. We knew we wanted something absolutely extravagant and amazing for one part, and like I described above, something more casual...relatable. These are all for her heartfelt blog “An Ash Made Beautiful”. There she, in a way, writes inspirational/advice giving blog posts. If you ever need a reminder that things will turn around, and that it is okay to love yourself fully and completely then you should really read what she has to say.
We started our shoot in the afternoon on downtown Lumberton, a place full of little gems that make more than perfect photography backdrops. We even discovered new ones that have been brought about by what seems to be an active renewal of downtown. She is the “perfect” client, in that when she gets in front of the camera it takes nothin for her to turn it on. She moves fluently in front of the camera, like a dancer moves to music. All throughout this shoot I knew I was going to have one too many pictures to choose from. Once we moved from Lumberton to Rowland where another hidden gem was, I knew o really WAS in for a task of breaking the photos down to chooses the very best for her. BUT how do you choose the best when everything feels like the best? Haha. One of the best parts about shooting in places you call home is the chance of running into family, just like I ran into my first cousin in the middle of the session. We were driving down the road when I saw those beautiful white trees in the distance, the blooms made the BEST back drop over anything I could imagine. Krystin went along with me and kinda just strapped in for the ride because she trusted me, and let me realize our vision fully. From there we went to the infamous honey hole in Maxton, North Carolina. I have been dying to do a shoot in water for over a year now, and this is the closest I have gotten. For some of these shots I ended I wading in the water a little too far, literally soaking my leggings, and causing Krystin to want to kill me, but it was sooooooo worth it. As any photographer knows, you gotta risk it for the biscuit. We wrapped up our day on the campus of UNC Pembroke, in the cute sitting area outside of Starbucks. At this point we were both completely exhausted (Summer our mutual friend who came along included). Our energy levels were down after a full day of shooting, and traveling form place to place. But she managed to pull off the last couple of pictures, and I managed to snap them. All in all it was an amazing day and I can’t wait for you to see these, and those to come soon after.
