Olivia's Grad Session

Writer's picture: Teri Khinsley LocklearTeri Khinsley Locklear

Good afternoon guys!

I want to introduce you to someone I’ve always admired. Olivia and I have known each other since we were little girls. We played in the yard whether that be at our mutual uncles, or her grandpa’s house. From then to now we have grown up in separate ways, in separate worlds. Where I was always immersed in my culture, surrounded by our people, she from my understanding, only got holidays like Lumbee Homecoming. She has dedicated her education quite similarly to me, in the betterment of our people. She had her first regalia made for her graduation, I believe as a symbol of cultural rebirth for her. There is nothing I admire more than someone going above and beyond not only for their people, but for the betterment of their knowledge, connections to their history as well as the issues that are ever present in Indigenous communities. Join me in celebrating yet another graduate, Olivia Guerra. 🤍
